With AI the Case for Blogging Has Never Been Stronger

⌛ 5 Minute Read

You may have heard it's not worth it.
If you run a business and you've been thinking about adding blog posts to your website, chances are someone has already told you not to bother. "Google's changing," they say. "AI is taking over. Blog posts won't work much longer."

Blog posts are still worth it if created with purpose.
People have been saying this for years, but blog posts are working better now than they ever have. Let me explain why.

Why Predicting the Future of SEO Doesn't Work

I've heard every prediction going.
I've been building websites for businesses in Kent for over 19 years. In that time, I've heard every prediction going. Social media was going to replace websites. Mobile apps were going to replace websites. Voice search was going to make everything else irrelevant. And now AI is apparently going to make website content pointless.

None of those predictions came true.
What actually happened is that the businesses who kept showing up, kept their websites updated, and kept putting out helpful content were always the ones that came out on top.

I've seen it first-hand with my own clients.
The ones who commit to regular content on their website consistently get more enquiries than the ones who launched a site, left it sitting there, and hoped for the best. Every single time.

Do what works now. Adapt when things actually change.
The truth is, every year someone tells me a new technology is about to make websites or SEO irrelevant. And every year, the businesses that ignored the noise and focused on creating useful content were the ones still getting found. The lesson is simple. Do what works now, and adapt when things actually change, not when someone on LinkedIn or Instagram predicts they might.

How AI Decides Which Businesses to Recommend

AI tools are already recommending businesses by name.
This is where it gets really interesting. AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's own AI overviews aren't just summarising random web pages. They're actively recommending businesses by name.

I tested this recently myself.
I asked ChatGPT "who's the best web designer in Gravesend" and it came back with a list of local contenders, broken down by what each one is best for. My business, it'seeze Gravesend, was right there at the top, recommended for local support, SEO foundations, and helping SMEs with ongoing website management.

My Question to Chat GPT:

This didn't happen by accident.
It happened because of years of consistent content and a website that clearly communicates what we do and who we help. AI tools are pulling from all of this when they decide who to recommend.

This is known as Answer Engine Optimisation, or AEO.
It's not replacing SEO. It's building on top of it. The businesses with strong websites, genuine reviews, and helpful content are the ones AI is choosing to put in front of people. The businesses with a thin, outdated website and no content? There's the danger that AI doesn't even know they exist.

Would your business show up?
If you're wondering whether your website would show up when someone asks AI for a recommendation in your industry, the answer depends almost entirely on the content and reputation you've built online.

Why Blog Posts Still Work for Business SEO in 2026

Google is looking for content that answers real questions.
When someone searches for something like "how to choose a website designer in Kent" or "do I need a new website for my business," Google is looking for helpful, relevant content that answers that question. A well-written blog post that genuinely answers a real question is exactly what Google wants to show people. That's exactly what good SEO looks like in practice.

Your competitors are publishing. Are you?
Blog posts give your website depth. They show Google and AI that you know your subject, that you're active, and that your site is worth sending people to. A five-page website might still be helping you get found, and you might even be sitting on page one for some of your niche terms. A few years ago, that would have been enough. But in 2026, it's the equivalent of having a shop with the shutters half down. You might still be open, but nobody walking past would know it. And here's the bigger problem - with AI overviews now appearing at the top of search results, fewer people are scrolling past them to click on websites at all.

How AI is Making Website Content More Valuable

AI needs your content to work.
AI is changing things, no question. But right now, it's actually making blog content more valuable, not less. AI needs content to learn from and reference. If your website is one of the places it pulls from, that's a massive win for your visibility.

The difference between businesses getting found and not is almost always content.
I see this pattern regularly. A business comes to me with a website that hasn't been touched in two or three years. It looks fine on the surface, but it's not generating any enquiries. Meanwhile, a competitor with a similar business but a website full of helpful articles and up-to-date content is getting found every day. The difference isn't the design. It's the content.

AI is deciding whether you're an authority or just another name.
And it's not just about Google rankings anymore. When an AI tool is deciding which businesses to recommend, it's looking at how much useful, relevant information it can find about you online. Blog posts, case studies, FAQs, helpful guides. All of this feeds into whether AI sees you as an authority in your field or just another name in a directory. And Google has been doing this for years.

If your website hasn't been updated, it's time.
If your website hasn't been updated in a while, that's a good sign it's time for a redesign and a proper content plan to go with it.

Why the Best SEO Strategy is What Works Now

The businesses that do well don't wait.
I've learned one thing over nearly 20 years in this industry. The businesses that do well online are not the ones who wait for the perfect moment or the perfect strategy. They're the ones who take action with what works today.

The case for blogging has never been stronger.
You could wait another year to see how search evolves. Or you could start creating helpful content now, build momentum, and be in a much stronger position regardless of what changes come next.
Every year I've been doing this, the businesses that consistently published content outperformed the ones that didn't. That hasn't changed. And from everything I'm seeing right now, with AI actively recommending businesses based on their online content, the case for blogging has never been stronger.

The window is wide open.
If you've been putting off adding content to your website or getting your website redesigned, now is the time. Not because the window is closing, but because right now, it's wide open.
